This Big Horn Sheep sculpture has unfolded slowly, reminding me of what it is to practice patience. I didn’t know where this piece would lead when I first sculpted the Big Horn Sheep head in 2020. Its direction emerged over time, through travel, close observation, and small moments of chance.
The piece has moved with me to Colorado, where Big Horns gather by my local river, the Arkansas. Each material brought its own qualities. Chosen for their strength, the bronze and white oak demanded long hours of labor and problem solving. The porcelain feathers are fragile and required a delicate touch. Together they've shaped a work built on time, attention, and long-term commitment, qualities that have become central to my time in the studio.
